NYE with Blu Jaz and Good Times
Good Times and Blu Jaz would like to invite you to our blow out NYE party, this 31st December!
Every month we bring you Good Times; an independant party that is hot bed for you to enjoy some of the brightest DJs and musicians on our tiny island, who take us dancing and partying and be merry. GOOD TIMES NYE is no different – well it is actually.
GOOD TIMES NYE @ Blu Jaz will be a feast of great music, great fun, great people in a great venue. Its almost like a house party, but better! We’re pulling out all the stops for this New Years. We’re doing one better than last year, by calling back our favourite DJs and bands over the past year, and inviting fresh exciting ones especially for our celebration.
Come dressed up for the occasion or dressed down and laid back. Its your choice. We just feel its important to usher in the New Year right with your best friends!

A big howdy doody on this overcast Monday! If your glass is half full, you’d (as I am) be grateful for a chance to be decked up in those autumn and winter wear! A big thanks to Etracx and Trance Republic for some great tracks – with thanks to DJ Forno all the way from KL! This week, we have artistes who will light up Blu Jaz with a bang, a boom and then some.
WEDNESDAY
Chill with Grooveworks @ Cafe with a glass or two of our special cocktails mixed up from our bar…Â The musicians serve us cool sax and intricate rhythms from 9pm onwards.
THURSDAY
Bringing out Ella, Duke, Elliot… the big bands and the glamour of the 30s, it’s Swing Thursday! Jitterbugs Dance School and Blu Jaz presents Lindy Hop night where the dancing shoes are suddenly in abundant – if you’re shy, just approach Sing for that complimentary lesson! She is usually by the DJ conosle. 8pm onwards @ Cafe
FRIDAY
We have some very sexy sounds this Friday with Greg on sax, Rachma on keys, Willy on Bass and Darren Moore on drums – this is a stellar crew with gifts of magical sounds to give. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe
Good Times rock out with us @ Lounge. Catch them for some superb funk, R&B, hip hop and electronic mixes…. and remember they will clear the dance floor for you signature moves. 9:30pm onwards @ Lounge
SATURDAY
It’s a busy night as NUS celebrates the end of their exams with us. From 6:30pm Quasimodo and Like a Band hold court for dinner sessions@ Cafe
And some R&B with jazz mix are in the menu order after 9:30pm @ Cafe. With Fendi on vox, Munir on guitar, Willy on bass and Floods on drums – it’s going to be some sweet sweet sounds.
Synq Crew takes on the decks @ Lounge from 9pm onwards and will deliver right to your feet some wicked electro mixes.

It almost feels like we have autumn in Singapore and it makes al fresco dining a lot more reasonable… One of my favorite months in Singapore, this is the weekend we choose to celebrate with the first ever Trance Party @ Blu Jaz! So read on!
TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY
Grooveworks I and II entertain all with their very own brand of jazz with Tuesday on the 3rd Flr @ Space from 9pm onwards and Wednesday on the 1st Flr @ Cafe from 9pm onwards.
DJ Divine rolls in with his very own mixes of Reggae and bring some tropical to this month’s chill @ Lounge from 9pm onwards
THURSDAY
And if you’ve ever felt like trying out Lindy Hop, this is a perfect chance with complimentary class from 8pm onwards by Jitterbugs Dance School while the rest of them put on them swingin’ shoes and just jam away with Sing on the decks, blasting 1930s tunes.
FRIDAY
Fuze Collective make their way back this Friday with Muhd Noor on drums and he’ll bring you in, feet a-stompin’ and hips a-swayin’ when they make some noise. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe
Pushin’ On delivers as usual with their very own mix of soul and funk @ Lounge from 9:30pm onwards. This is a party not to be missed as you have none of those pretentious posers on the floor – just some very good vibrations, yo.
SATURDAY
We have some gorgeous people in the house! Ayaschool presents Nicole on sax, Bong on bass, Bobby Singh on drums and Aya on keys – this is the grooviest on a sat night. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe
This is a night where electronic music fans are in for a treat – where both Lounge AND Space will be spinning the best sounds yet. COUP will be storming the decks at Blu Jaz yet again, the DJs will be dishing out an eclectic range of the darkest, spaciest tunes, from broken beats to house to psytrance to techno. 9:30pm onwards @ Lounge
And now, for the first time in Blu Jaz – we present to you TRAN:CES – a project brought to you by E-Tracx and Trance Republic. A definitive night where old and new friends in progressive and trance music meet. Move to a beat fusing progressive, tech sounds and melodical uplifting trance. We shouldn’t dwell in the past but I have to comment that STICK IT ON was a roaring success – I suppose all of us just want to be DJ SUPERSTARS….. looking forward into the crystal ball, I can promise a slew of new fun things… and hmm this seem to be a weekly event! Heh.
TUESDAY
I’ve gotta a feeling, it’s gonna be a good good night – quoting Black Eyed Peas and it’s true as Grooveworks play their music with some cool jazz from 9pm onwards @ Space
WEDNESDAY
Grooveworks II brings on some familiar jazz tunes as well as some improvised pieces – keep a hear out for Freddi on trombone! 9pm onwards @ Cafe
Feeling like some chair dancing, or in our case, couch dancing? Just don’t step on them if not ‘ma’ will kill us. I can’t think of anything better than Reggae with DJ Divine! From 9pm @ Lounge
THURSDAY
A noteworthy event with the Music Lab as workshop sponsor and Blu Jaz as venue sponsor. They create a free workshop for those who love music but can’t find the moolah for any lessons. 12pm – 7pm @ Space is the time of the workshop where peeps get their hands on the keyboard, guitar, bass or drum set – so do drop by to satisfy that curiosity.
Jitterbugg-in and hoppin’ and swingin’ are moves we’re puttin’ on Thursday nights! 8pm onwards with Jitterbugs Lindy Hop Dancers – to jam and to give you a FREE lesson! Just ask for Sing! @ Cafe

Blu Jaz Lounge brings 2 exciting acts together on the same night. Presenting the Lion City Orchestra and DJ Andrew McKay!
The Lion City Orchestra is an 8-piece funk & soul band from the creators of Pushin’On, and will be giving folks furious funk and gritty soul! On this night, the LCO will play funk and soul hits from the 60s to the present. They will also perform their unreleased singles such as the soul-stomper “You Ain’t Ready”, the heart-wrenching “Don’t Let a Good Woman Go” and the summertime happy soul of “Until You Say Yes”. And this month’s special is the debut performance of their new single, “Lion’s Walk” PLUS a funky cover of a Prince tune. Funk & soul music, made in the Lion City.
DJ Andrew Mckay, having played at kick ass events – such as the after party of the Beastie Boy, will bring some sexy deep beats to your event. For no apparent reason other than having fun (and that’s reason enough) 44 Beatz will be playing films in your heads at the next Blu Jaz. Stylish n chic. Thrill in the chase. A very twisted plot line to get your feet tapping n hearts pounding. Working out who did it may not be difficult, but figuring out exactly what it was they did may be. And calling all other musicians – Matrix Jam is BACK with George leading the jam – come on up to Lounge to show off your music moves. Usually seeing musicians from various groups, Matrix Jam offers a night of great synergy and fun. 9pm onwards @ LOUNGE

Magic from Mr Danny is OFF this month as he retreats to mountain high in meditation for some new tricks up his sleeve BUT the LINDY HOPPERS from Jitterbugs still make like feet fly! In preparation for an up and coming recording, Darren Moore ‘Galaxy’ will perform one last gig for 2009 before they go into the studio! The group features Darren on drums, Greg Lyons on sax, Andrew Lim on guitar, Tim O’Dwyer on sax and Tony Makarome on bass.  The music is all written by Darren with a range of influences from modern jazz to free jazz to free improv to electronic music to funk.
