And the ghouls and witches are lords and empresses this end week but we continue to roll out great cocktails and yummy dishes with friendly servers.

THURSDAY – it’s poetry slam night! Watch poets and spoken word artists perform their original poems over a 3-round competition. Poets are given 3 minutes to express themselves. Judges, who are randomly selected from the audience, then score the poems based on content, performance and audience reaction. Top scoring poets from each round will progress to the next. A sacrificial poet will kick off the competition to help the judges calibrate their scores. The Slam will be hosted by Arianna Pozzuoli and will feature guest poet Miriam Nash. Get on stage and Slam, or kick back, grab a drink and soak up the live action on stage @ Space from 7:30pm onwards

Cover charge: $7
Winner of the Slam will take home a $75 cash prize.

FRIDAY – It’s going to be a swaperoo with Aya this weekend when this most delightful, mischievous, talented musician plays on Friday! – Together with Casey on bass, Wen on drums and R. Jackson on vox – it’s going to be a smooth, sexy night. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe
And of course being the LAST Friday of the month, the outstanding crew from Pushin’ On will be dealing us with the sweet, sassy, funky, ultra cool stuff – 9:30pm onwards @ BOTH Lounge and Space – come on up for some serious boogie music.

SATURDAY – Being in Singapore for over 6 years, Ireson, brings us some hot, thumpin’ Latin rhythms – shaken with some cool Jazz, and hey – we have Bossa Nova. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe, it’s a treat not to be missed!
For those craving some bass – it’s eclectic electronica ranging from house to minimalist to techno and a whole dose of progressive. 44 Beats holds courts and plays ruler @ Lounge. 9:30pm onwards

Peace Out and Happy Trick or Treatin’

19th Oct – 23rd Oct

October 19, 2010

Elections are in the air and you know it cos the papers tell us that we spend 2 million to be flood free but then, it’s not – and THEY tell us that no one can fight nature……  We, at the corner of this chillax neighborhood, are hoping that the peeps in those ivory towers take note that our tiny not-so-fleepy neighbourhood is blooming and raring to go – pls pay us a visit and we’ll show you!

So we have brain-food, mid-week (WEDNESDAY) with blink bl_nk - and this week’s main course is soul food. We talk about LOVE, so expect speakers’ perspectives on the world’s oldest conundrum to be idiosyncratic, erudite, and of course highly entertaining. So please come down early, grab one of the good chairs, order some chow, and settle in for another night of talks, tunes, drinks, and friends. 7pm onwards @ SPACE

And come FRIDAY, groove with Greg Lyons’ Quartet with some hot jazz – it’s so cool that it’s hot… and yeah – totally time for triteness – but that is just my writing and, in no way, reflect the awesomeness, the mind-boggling music of Greg and gang. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe. And if you’re a lady looking for a ve m, go on up to LOUNGE where they’re auctioning dates with ladies with the proceeds going against poverty – and you’d have to bid, naturally – better high than not at all!

And Ayaschool goes off for a short break and we’re super privileged (ok – excited too) to have WICKED AURA in the DA HOUSE on SATURDAY. The be DA BOMB, second to none. Join us for an amazing night of love and energy – where no mere mortals would go to. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe. And if you’re still feeling some down tempo – go on up to LOUNGE where Vanessa Fernendez and the Brown Note will be swirling up some sultry amidst the cool jazz.

Peace out!

11th Oct – 16th Oct

October 12, 2010

It’s mid Oct and something wicked is coming round our way – All Hallow’s Even and mischief is in the air. And to help with some merry making – If you’re hankering for some melodious entertainment – hang out @ Cafe with Sarah Cheng’s Bossa & Blues Night. 8pm onwards. Singer-songwriter Sarah Cheng-De Winne and her band perform bossa & blues alongside her original songs from her recently released debut EP, Let’s Pretend. Set will include the Radio Single “Maybe Forever (Remix)â€, which recently hit the local airwaves on LUSH99.5!  Sarah’s distinctively-soulful vocals will be accompanied by Jordan Wei (Keyboards/Guitar) and Ramu Thiruyanam (Percussion).

With the midweek entertainment boost, we come round to Friday (yay! It’s the weekend!). Join Noor, Aya and Fendi for an amazing, mind-blowing night of jazz-soul – a class and cut in a different dimension, expect some original interpretations and outstanding improvisations. 9:30pm @ Cafe. Feeling the itch for a party? JC Crump brings you the best of hip hop- with some funky tunes @ Lounge from 9pm onwards.

And we round up the week on Saturday with our favorite lady, AYA! Bringing along her crew, she breathes some ants down our pants (figuratively, naturally) and have us all jumping with her enthusiasm, passion and raw talent. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe - It’s jazz… and more.

Peace Out, ya’ll!

We help ease you into the week with OMNIFORM - a 10-piece sound of 3 saxes, 3 brass, flute and rhythm section performing the original compositions and arrangements of saxophonist Greg Lyons at Cafe tonight (Monday) from 9pm onwards.

And if you’re craving for a touch of Latin, Aya may just round up the gang for a Fiesta mid-week (Wednesday) @ Space from 9pm. Catch some hot rhythms and cool jazz to give some glimpse of bossa nova throughout the night.

Swing your way to the 1st Thursday of the month with Jitterbugs for Swing Fling! Dancers and enthusiasts alike come on down for a night of Lindy Hop and Charleston-era songs – let that ole magic work for you while you bee bop till the next working day. 8pm onwards @ Cafe – Complimentary demo by SING if you ask nicely.

And our favoritest percussion, Noor,  comes back with his crew of merry music makers. It’s hot and fast this Friday @ Cafe from 9:30pm onwards. Main Course: Jazz. But if your body and soul need to move to a different beat, DJs from Republic Poly churn out their hits ranging from top 40s remixes to electronic dance. 8pm onwards @ Lounge

And to round up the week (Saturday), we have AYASCHOOL! It’s time for some doctor LURVE with Aya and her crazzzzy friends – the intangible positive energy from free jazz, up-tempo jazz, swing jazz and maybe even some Dixie – you never know. The good vibes start from 9:30pm @ Cafe. And new sounds keep popping out while our homies bring about some Reggae Ska music – live!  Three Bands to entertain and ignite those souls from 9pm onwards at Lounge. So, come on up.
Peace Out, yo.
