Apologies for the late update and if you’ve missed the great OMNIFORM on Monday – we truly apologise – BUT the good news is that they’ll be back again in January 2012 – a brand new year.

Tonight we had the captivating singer-songwriter, Julianne, from Philippines, make her debut at Blujaz Cafe! Julianne has performed at Mosaic Music Festival as well as Baybeats 2011. And we hope you caught some of her beautiful songs.

WEDNESDAY sees Matrix Jam @ Lounge with George leading this merry bunch of music makers. Bring your good, bootie-shakin’ self on up. 8:30pm onwards

Come FRIDAY, we have a farewell jam to Jamie Castrisos. Accompanying this fantabulous drummer, are Sebastian Ho on guitar, Brandon Wong on bass and Aya Sekine on keys. Sets being from 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe

LilaDrums is going to give a synchrony of rhythms and bass with their DJEMBE session. Taking over Blu Jaz Cafe on SATURDAY - it promises to be a Red-Bull level performance with loadsa dancing and don’t be surprise if you go through a catharsis. 9:30pm onwards.

And a big HELLO to the djembe enthusiast. Join Lila Drums for the THURSDAY Djembe Open Mic Jam! Bring your friends and family down to Bali Lane and enjoy a wild night of djembe mania! Bust out those favorite rhythms, or solos and breaks you’ve been practising on. 9pm onwards @ Space. We have

It’s the lovely Yvette Atienza on vox this FRIDAY with Jordan W on keys, Jase S on bass and Darryl E on drums. Jazz is on the menu with a dash of pop. 9:30pm @ Cafe. HEART of GLASS - DJs rule @ Lounge with some ambient as appetizer followed by a main course of indie music, taking you back to where it belongs. Expect loads of uncompromising beats & bleeps you don’t hear in a normal club… – it’s fine music pickin’ if you ask us. 8:30pm onwards.

Floods‘ a coming back with his crew as AYASCHOOL goes on break. It’s a wicked jam of jazz, funk and some cool improv. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe this SATURDAY. Head on up to LOUNGE with 44 Beatz for an oasis of tech, house if you’re feeling parched. The dosage is strong and steady and will keep on going from 9:30pm.

Alrightie, laddies… it’s going to seem like a short week cos we be working for a day before we can snooze in till midday tomorrow! So come on down to Blu Jaz for some great home cookin’ or some yummy Sangria @ Piedra Negra this evening!

On FRIDAY, we are pleased as punch to have GOOD TIMES take over all 3 floors of Blu Jaz! It’s their 3rd Anniversary and loads of somethings special are coming this way! DJs and bands – performing never heard before collaborations all geared towards one common mission.. Good Times! And there is no warm up, we start with SIXX kicking things off proper at 9pm sharp! This is the fifth installment of this urban music night where the CHROAM boys draw on their experience of the London club scene to serve up an eclectic mix of sounds from the 70’s through to the here and now. Rare grooves, Funk, UK garage, deep soulful house, Hip/Hop – you’ll find it all at this ‘house’ party. 9pm onwards. Up at SPACE, we have Kamal’s band – belting out some indie tunes and mainstream mixes – a little more analog and equally pleasing to your ears. 9:30pm onwards!

It’s a rainy Monday morning and all we want to do is curl back into bed and hit the snooze a couple more times. A couple of million more times. Alas, it is not meant to be but the perks of living in a city is the great taste of coffee just round the corner! We welcome you to hang out with us to chase away them Monday’s blues….

On THURSDAY we are calling all hand drummers and percussionists out there to jam with LILA DRUMS @ SPACE from 9pm onwards!  Look forward to the Free Jam, Beginners Jam, and Performance Jam at Blu Jaz SPACE! Players, bring your djembe or any percussion instruments you want to jam with – don’t leave them home alone! Come experience a melting pot of drumming passion!

It’s the cool and sexy FLOODS and gang bringing their hot, jazzy sounds to Blu Jaz Cafe this FRIDAY. From 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe, join us for great sounds – with maybe just a tad bit of tribal fused into it. And if you’re feeling thoroughly electronic – head on up to LOUNGE from 9pm onwards for INDOLAND - a twist (and maybe a skip and a hop, too) to electronic beats.

Fuze Collective takes the stage on SATURDAY and it’s Fendi soothing, intoxicating voice that draws us ever closer to some great sexy, sultry moves. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe – it’s a date for some body grooving.

It’s a little dated but THANK YOU EVERYONE who came down to Gambatte! Fight for Japan – thanks to all the artistes who contributed their craft, time and love – thank you for everyone who donated to the cause – if you haven’t heard – we raised SGD 76,000!!!!!!!!!!!! So, yeah – thank you!

And so it is, we drift towards the end of March but our programs certainly doesn’t simulate the lazy weather… it’s Djembe Open Mic Jam this THURSDAY with Lila Drums! Upstairs @ Lounge AND Space – we present – drum roll please – Pushin’On! Funk and hip-hop are inseparable. And when you get a chance to have them both in one place on one night, you take it. Pushin’On this month gives you a double dose of ‘live’ acts as they celebrate the musical month of March.

Duels Official
Duels Official is Singapore’s answer to rap battle leagues such as Grindtimenow, King of the Dot and Don’t Flop. Hisham The Mc, Enero and Rapscallion took inspiration from these movements and championed a rap battle league to draw attention to the skills of Singapore rappers and a rap battle as dynamic entertainment. Do not miss this set in a collaboration with DJ Shellsuit.

Masterpiece & the Mighty Mighty
“Live” funk resumes at Pushin’On with Masterpiece & the Mighty Mighty. From their debut in 2008 as the Lion City Orchestra, the Mighty Mighty is now the house band of Pushin’On. If you haven’t heard – Piedra Negra – found hanging out at the corner of Beach Rd and Haji Lane – is open. The kitchen is a lovely hole in the wall, that isn’t quite a hole but a flurry of warm hot Mexican colours, serving spicy Sangria. Our Chef, Mario, comes from Mexico City and is happily helping us put on the pounds with his sinfullydelishcandiefor dishes. Don’t believe me. Please, try it for yourself. I ne’er bruff youse.

But over at Blu Jaz, we bring you a jam session TONIGHT – Munkee Business  – they call themselves and you can take you and your bizzzz up to Lounge to check out the core band or just holler your heart out with them – with an instrument – of course- this ain’t no Kareeeeoke. 8:30pm onwards… it’s freee. really.

And then the weekend arrives. Friday sees Kelvin Kew and Fanka Fellas drumming up a storm – quite literally. And in his words: Come dance with the coolest Djembe players in town. It’s a rock out party. 9:45pm onwards @ Cafe

It’s a comfort when Saturday is a promised night of great music, kick ass performers – Ayaschool slips onto stage and gives us our main course for the night – the music fit for the Devil himself. Seductive, exotic and cool to touch. Jazz at its finest. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe. We also break into our new DJ decks @ Piedra Negra – Eugene and friend take over with some progressive house and favorite sing-a-longs. 9pm onwards @ Piedra Duo (2nd flr to us cool kids.)

No doubt the weather seems a tad bit dreary but the silver lining is in the change of our supposedly one season temperature all year round -allowing for hot chocolates, warmer fashion, brandy and whiskey to get the nice warmth in our tummies.  We, the people of BLu Jaz, pledge ourselves to consistent friendly service and good food for our customers. And this week, a few highlights amongst our regular music makers.

17th Dec – Wed – Grooveworks with Greg Lyons @ Cafe (1st Flr) Set starts at 9pm

18th Dec – Thurs – Lila Drums’ last gig of the year and they be taking a break in 2009 @ Cafe (1st Flr) Set starts at 8:30pm – so come on down to catch some truly heartfelt African Drumming if you have not already done so.

19th Dec – Fri – Monster Trio – 9:30pm @ Cafe (1st Flr) Good Jazz. Need I say more?

DJ Luna spins @ Lounge (2nd Flr) from 9pm onwards. We’ll ease you, ladies and gentlemen, with some chilled tracks before revving it up to some electronic fused sounds.

And for those who are marching to a different beat – or entirely different culture, in this case, belly dance performance commences at 9:30pm @ Space (3rd Flr)

20th Dec – Sat – Ayaschool – 9:30pm @ Cafe (1st Flr) produces mean sounds. Infectious too. Aya and some of the Wicked boys will do us the honour again (and again – YAY!) with their passion and talent.

An explosion of music

Last week saw Aya and the Wicked Boys to new heights at the Cafe and a whole new host of belly dance performers at the Space on Saturday.  This week we bring back Lila Drums on Thursday ,18th September at the Cafe with Mamady Keita gracing the event and internationally certified Djembe teachers: Kelvin Kew, Jeremy Tomasck and Monette Marino-Keita, performing. A rockin’ kick *** set commencing from 8:30pm.

FRIDAY:
Bringing in the boys is Greg Lyon’s Monster Trio on Friday with the smooth sounds of Jazz from 9:30pm onwards on the 1st Floor and we see the lovely Kyoko with MORE belly dancing on the 3rd Floor @ Space from 9pm onwards.

SATURDAY:

Aya returns with the Wicked Boys and Bobby Singh and in her words: a Wicked Aura Ayazinha Especial special you cannot miss! We are pleased as punch that she has found a new height to her music and is sharing it with us, so if you’re in the mood to be inspired, join us for some wicked sounds.

Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke – our awesome combination with Greg Lyons on Saxaphones on Fridays and Ayaschool on Saturdays and this week isn’t different with sweet sounds of jazz with Mr Lyons and wild jungle sounds from Aya.

Upcoming would be Lila Drums back for an encore this month on the 18th September @ Blu Jaz Cafe (1st Floor) from 8:30pm onwards. And resident belly dancer, Kyoko returns on the 19th Sept @ Blu Jaz Space from 8:30pm onwards. Our last Friday of the month sees Pushin’ On back at the consol at our Lounge to raise body temperatures by some degrees with their brand of funk soul and house.

Drummin’ Good Times

So for all those who like drum and bass but of the separate types, Lila Drums are back tonight (thurs) at Blu Jaz Cafe at 8:30pm. Djembe groovin’ for 2 sets with the 2nd set at 9:30pm.

“Good Times*” is a unique event where everybody is invited to let their guard down, shimmy on to good old school tunes, funky breaks, and boogie into the night as we up the tempo and pace.

“Good Times” is all for a night out with your best mates, filled with stupid incidents and crazy antics. We invite you to rock up to a night where you are the master of the dance floor.

We’ll clear space for you to bust your signature moves.

The night will feature old school hiphop, breakbeats, electro, dubstep, dnb and jungle provided by your favorite DJs…
