Things are a heating up especially with Chinese New Year round the corner. We’re going to take a break from the 23rd Jan – 26th Jan inclusive – re-opening on the 27th Jan (FRIDAY) but meanwhile for this week…

TUESDAY: It’s an exciting time for us as we welcome THE BURTON’s, all the way from New Zealand, to Blu Jaz LOUNGE - they’ll be coming in with some big band sounds – so head on up from 8pm onwards

WEDNESDAY: It’s EDDY’s Jam Session @ Cafe – a promised fulfilled – of great music and vibes. Have a pint or two while you soak it all in. Head on up to LOUNGE from 8pm onwards for the new session of BLINK BL_NK. It’s an evening of talks and discussion for a mere $5 donation at the door. There be pirates.
At this point – we want to give a shout out to ELLEN AND UDI who met @ Space some time back, got hitched and will be doing their vows at the place where they first set eyes on each other. CONGRATULATIONS!

THURSDAY: Under the Velvet Sky visits at SPACE with avant-garde music – it’s a journey of musical improvisation, aspired by a diverse influence of music from Mozart to contemporary sounds. UTVS have been actively performing live in Singapore. For their first live performance, they were chosen to close the Singapore Arts Festival 2009 open mic session at City Hall. In 2010, UTVS performed in 2 music and arts festivals in Indonesia.

FRIDAY: It’s back to smooth and sexy with FENDI and crew @ CAFE. From 9:30pm onwards, the band will bring you sweet sounds which is. wait for it. music for your soul. And if you’ve been a fan of MUGIC, the good news is that it’s a sweet beginning for us and them while we host this fantastic team of music-makers @ LOUNGE from 9:30pm onwards
And over at sister outlet: PIEDRA NEGRA - we’re throwing a MEXICAN party – LIME - it’s a night of beer promos and hot, hot music… salsa based with touches of reggae and electro.

SATURDAY: It’s AYASCHOOL with MORE talented musicians – Beverly Morata on vox, Willy Garthright on bass, Erick Hargrove on drums and Aya Sekine on keys. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe and there is nothing left to do but allow yourselves to be immerse in nothing short of awesome. If you wanna pump it up – head on up to LOUNGE where Hafez and gang “TURN UP THE HEAT” with SOUL. DISCO. GARAGE. BEATS. 9:30pmo onwards.

Ok – so this isn’t really at Blu Jaz but at Piedra Negra but… it’s going to be FUN!!!! Cinco de Mayo is the day when the Mexicans managed to kick the Frenchs’ A55 out of Puebla in 1862 and they be celebrating this annually…. just don’t get it mixed up with Mexico’s Independence Day… It’s also the day of celebration of our dear Benjamin and we’re be doing a French vs Mexican battle – F&B style..

Come on down on the 5th May to order our special French and Spanish food menu. We are keeping scores and will do it up till the 6th May where we celebrate PEACE… with a whole bunch of goodies! LIVE BANDS both nights + Special Jam session organized by Rupak Shakur… DJs Gonzo and Shellsuit will be playing hot and sizzling Latin music (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cuban, Mambo, Mariachi, Cha Cha, Rumba, Cumbia, Reggaeton) as well as jumping and jiving oldies tunes (Jazz, Swing, Soul, Funk, Rn’B, Boogie)” from 9pm to 3am on the Friday 6th May.

How to play? The french get points for every Wine, Patis and French dish you order. The Mexcians get points for every beer, tequila shot and Mexican dish you order…. we’ll tally it all up on Friday. SO COME ON DOWN Thursday to play and Friday to celebrate!

It’s a little dated but THANK YOU EVERYONE who came down to Gambatte! Fight for Japan – thanks to all the artistes who contributed their craft, time and love – thank you for everyone who donated to the cause – if you haven’t heard – we raised SGD 76,000!!!!!!!!!!!! So, yeah – thank you!

And so it is, we drift towards the end of March but our programs certainly doesn’t simulate the lazy weather… it’s Djembe Open Mic Jam this THURSDAY with Lila Drums! Calling all hand drummers and percussionists out there to jam this Thursday night! Look forward to the Free Jam, Beginners Jam, and Performance Jam at Blu Jaz Cafe! Players, bring your djembe or any percussion instruments you want to jam with – don’t leave them home alone!  Come experience a melting pot of drumming passion – 8:30pm – 10:30pm @ Cafe.

It’s SoulFunkHipHopJungleJam with AYA this FRIDAY! lalalallalalalalaal – or rather boom boom boom…. featuring DJ KoFlow on decks, Willy on bass, Muhd Noor on drums and Rapper Blaze to bring the word… and if you get the push to share – come on down. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe. Upstairs @ Lounge AND Space – we present – drum roll please – Pushin’On! Funk and hip-hop are inseparable. And when you get a chance to have them both in one place on one night, you take it. Pushin’On this month gives you a double dose of ‘live’ acts as they celebrate the musical month of March.

Duels Official
Duels Official is Singapore’s answer to rap battle leagues such as Grindtimenow, King of the Dot and Don’t Flop. Hisham The Mc, Enero and Rapscallion took inspiration from these movements and championed a rap battle league to draw attention to the skills of Singapore rappers and a rap battle as dynamic entertainment. Do not miss this set in a collaboration with DJ Shellsuit.

We introduce a new DJ from Petstov Recordings @ Space on the 7th march. All the way from Spain, DJ Franco not only mixes but produces his own sounds, drawing inspiration from nature – his way is the path of a minimalist.

And on the 14th March, 44Beatz return with their eclectic mix of dance music @ Space, bringing you an intimate party either to chill or rev up.

Dustpan Recordings carry on with a 2nd showing on the 20th March with one of the best mixes of House @ Lounge

Pushin’ On closes the month of March on the 27th with funk, soul and their magic @ Lounge.

The week before a great Chinese feasting, we see some exciting parties with kick ass (yesssss, really) music towards the end of the week. Grooveworks takes Jan off and will return on Wed in February.. so till Friday, we have ambient music to soothe @ Space and Lounge and jazz play back @ Cafe.

Pushin’On is 3 this month! SO come celebrate the anniversary of Pushin’On, Singapore’s longest running, independently-promoted funk night.  They’re celebrating it big and early before Blu Jaz Cafe closes for the Lunar New Year. This night will feature DJs Shellsuit, Ko-Flow, Funk Bast*rd, Nazmatazz, Mister Magic, and MC Masterpiece on the soul mic.

It’s their 3rd Anniversary Disco ya’ll! So bring your good self, your dancing shoes and all your rhythm.

Where? The usual – Lounge (2nd Flr) from 9pm onwards

Our new resident belly dancer, Angelina, brings out a new flava and breathes more exotic dance movements to Space from 9pm onwards @ Space (3rd Flr).

Ayaschool takes centerstage from 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe. Last week was crazy Aidan’s birthday and tons of celebrations going round. This week features Alemay Fernandez on vocals with Aidan and Mohd Noor on percussion. It’s going to be another madcap AND enjoyable night. Don’t just chill, dance
