We’ve all been hearing about water… Floods in the Land of Smiles – Thailand – our neighbor. Reports have shown that many are stranded and left without the minimum staples. I just got back from Bangkok last week and you could see signs of them preparing for floods everywhere. The outskirts were horribly hit and also left the city reduced of some essentials – like drinking water. Our Thai friends in Singapore and Blu Jaz are getting together this TUESDAY to raise some money for the victims. Though a tragedy, the optimistic outlooks of our Thai friends are contagious and a live band be-a-playing @ Lounge from 8:30pm onwards. For every Singha beer you buy, Blu Jaz donates the whole proceed of SGD 10/bottle to the fund. So we hope you will join us for meaningful night.

Come THURSDAY - The Blackberries are debuting @ Blu Jaz Space! Band starts playing at 9pm. For those that haven’t seen them live before, The Blackberries are a collection of folk from all corners, hailing from the UK, Shanghai and South Africa, with a healthy dose of Kiwi thrown in for good measure. They’ll be playing a wide assortment of tunes from the 80′s, 90′s and naughties, a veritable mix-tape of slightly left-of-centre classics we’re sure you’ll love, together with a couple of their own original tunes. See you there!

It’s 3 heavy hitters with us on FRIDAY @ Cafe. Presenting… Aya on keys, Darren on drums and Greg on sax! It’s gonna be a killer night of sweet music and acid notes. 9:30pm onwards. Come rain or shine, Pushin’On is back @ Blu Jaz Lounge AND Space with the mother of all parties. Dean Chew, otherwise known as Funk Bast*rd of Cosa Nostra along with Unconventional Science return to Blu Jaz with disco, boogie, nu-funk and some diverse selection of Asian funk records! DJ JNR debuts with Pushin’On with Deep House, Detroit Techno, Philly Soul and early house. Of course, we wouldn’t be complete without the Mighty Mighty! So join us for a night of mayhem – cover – give as you please and the more you give, the more you’ll help the music go a long way!

Aya makes a double billing this weekend and on SATURDAY, she is captain with AYASCHOOl with a tres sexy line-up. We have Munir on bass, Kaye on sax and the lovely Dawn Ho on vox. 9:30pm onwards.
And if you’re looking for a Halloween Party – come on over to Angels and Demons presented by The Dig vs Heart of Glass. Spanning 2 floors of Blu Jaz we have the heavenly indie beauties upstairs (level 3) and filthy dub-tech demons downstairs (level 2) where they belong. It’s gonna be a night of dancing to prepare you for future daze. Come expect the unexpected & lose yourself to the wayward beat!

Well – we have some talented musicians from our neighbours: Srey Channthy and Julien Poulson aka the Monkey & the Mermaid, vocals and guitar for THE CAMBODIAN SPACE PROJECT are stopping in Singapore for one night only. They will be playing an acoustic set from The Cambodian Space Project ALBUM at BluJaz Space – from 8pm onwards. What some people say about them:

George comes back on with MATRIX JAM on WEDNESDAY - head up to Lounge if you wanna be part of a host of talents with a jazz jam. 8:30pm onwards.

Wicked Aura is back at Blu Jaz this FRIDAY! This time to raise funds for their NEXT album: Voodoo. It’s a going to be fun, it’s a going to be rocking, it’s a going to be WICKED. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe. If it’s a different sort of party you’re craving for, GOOD TIMES returns on the 1st Friday of the month to present with DJ Krumbs, Intrigue and Race* on the decks. Expect the usual collision of sounds – from Hip-Hop to Funk to Dubstep and back – set against the cosiest, most laidback joint in Singapore. It’s 2 Floors of fun, yo.

SATURDAY sees Ayaschool back at Cafe. From 9:30pm onwards, this lovely lady will give a kill keyboard set along with some friends to croon and blast out those jazz tunes. Infused with some soul, funk and loads of talent, the music is devine. If your groove leans towards the islands – REGGAE is the name of the game. Lounge and Space give you DJs with the Jamaican flava. 9:30pm onwards.

It’s been a very loud weekend with the cars in circles and as the party glamour dust settles, we invite you to chill out in comfortable surroundings and personable service. However come mid-week, Eddy revives jam sessions and host an electrifying session with music galore to boot. It’s WEDNESDAY from 9pm @ Cafe, so come for dinner and stay for entertainment.

On THURSDAY, it’s Poetry Slam Night and all you word lovers, take the creative liberty of the English language to showcase your talent. Rap it, sing it, dramatize it – just come. And there is plenty of room for them audience too. So head on up to SPACE - from 8pm onwards.

The party on FRIDAY is bound to be uplifting to say the least as Pushin’on returns for the usual end of the month party. But what is not on our regular menu is the debut of the new covers – turning soul to latin. The Mighty Mighty ‘live’, house band of Pushin’On, continues a timeless tradition of funk nights around the world such as Motherfunk and Breakin’ Bread and they hit the 3rd floor of Blu Jaz (SPACE) with 2 sets of funk, soul and R&B. DJ KFC, Shellsuit, Chunk, Dave Code and Gonzo rule LOUNGE (2nd for of Blu Jaz) with hip-hop, disco, nu-funk, latin, jazz, swing, boogie and rockabilly. 9:30pm onwards. But if you’re feeling mellow – hang out at Cafe where dreamy-velvety-voiced FENDI leads on vocals of Fuze Collective. 9:30pm onwards.

AYASCHOOL rocks out @ Cafe on SATURDAY, figuratively at least, since they bring you cool jazz, smooth souls, hot tempos – all from 9:30pm onwards. And you don’t need to be a kid to play on this day, CHROAM blow up their party all the way up to SPACE - where they present some groovy tunes for you to nod your head to before you rev it up and head down to LOUNGE - where they claim the airways with their mix of banging’ electro beats. YES WE ARE OPEN!!!! Today for lunch and dinner @ Blu Jaz. However we open from 4pm tomorrow. We wish all our Muslim friends a happy Hari Raya Puassa! Eat well and enjoy!

Side note: Piedra Negra IS opened today but closed tomorrow.

And staring off mid-week (WEDNESDAY) is Jeremy Monteiro and his crew – this is the last installment of Jeremy’s brand of jazz @ Blu Jaz for a bit, so come on down and catch him, live! 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe.

Simon returns with deep, sexy house the first THURSDAY of the month and he is going to provide some groovy right before the weekend hits. So come on up to LOUNGE and give your ears an aural pleasure. 9:30pm onwards.

Come FRIDAY - party with GOOD TIMES @ Lounge. It’s veteran hip-hop selector DJ DREM and breakbeat mainstay Joshua P on the decks. They’re joined by Kiat, head honcho of the mighty Syndicate collective and a pioneer of the local underground sound. They are also showcasing Orita Sinclair – a boutique design, new media and arts school. In gratitude, Good Times is proud to showcase a collection of Good Times posters designed by their students. (They’re lookin’ mighty dope!) As always, there’s no dress code to party with us and entry is absolutely free.

CouCou…… it’s the 1st MONDAY of the month and we have OMNIFORM with us @ Cafe. Without a doubt, this would be THE band to hang out with on Monday. 9pm onwards – have a bite, put up your feet, grab a drink and enjoy this aural pleasure.

Come WEDNESDAY, it’s Jeremy Monteiro’s first gig with us – the month of August sees this respected jazz artistes and his crew, coaxing out them notes for us. 9pm onwards @ Cafe.

It’s Simon on decks again this THURSDAY @ Lounge with very deep, very sexy – house. 9:30pm onwards, head on up where the man does his magic to take you to a different plane – a gratifying cerebrum experience.

Ayaschool does a SWAP and they are ON this FRIDAY @ Blu Jaz Cafe from 9:30pm onwards. It’s a mad-capped night just cos, well, it’s Aya. And right on time to celebrate the new month, we have GOOD TIMES. Spinning favorite sounds with new mixes, the DJs give you tunes to bust out them moves. And to quote: Just. Do. It’s an AWESOME week cos we’re starting off with great music on MONDAY - as it is! Check out the Singapore Poly Jazz Band @ Cafe – playing yr jazz favorites with a fuller and bigger sound. 8:30pm onwards @ Cafe. And if you want something a little more intimate – head on up to SPACE where Melissa teams up with Christy on bass, Wen on drums and Joshua on keys. Eddie plays his final Revival Jam gig this WEDNESDAY before Mr Jeremy Monterio graces us in August. Eddie’s Revival Jam takes a short break so catch him and his crew for some real talent and music to your ears. 9pm onwards @ Cafe.

FunkiMunkees holds court this FRIDAY with great blues – the kind that just go straight to your soul. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe. Pushin’On takes their last Friday of the month and party on hard. It’s a PLEASE GIVE AS YOU PLEASE - to keep the funk and fun going. The Mighty Mighty plays live and DJs Shellsuit, Chunk, Gonzo and guest DJ Koflow keep us entertain in between. The CHROAM boys draw on their experience of the London club scene to serve up an eclectic mix of sounds from the 70′s through to the here and now. Rare grooves, Funk, UK garage, deep soulful house, Hip/Hop you’ll find it at all. A svelte voice, he does possess. It’s Fendi and crew back at Blu Jaz Cafe this FRIDAY from 9:30pm onwards. Velvety, creamy sounds to hit you at the right spot for the Friday after work. Hang on to your seats when he starts adding funk to the repertoire bringing your work week to a new high….

And Aya is back this SATURDAY with an elegant song bird: Ms Joanna Dong – crystal clear voice and charming personality, Ayaschool promises more than entertainment – it’s a concert, yo. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe. And it’s a debut for REWIND - a 90s hip hop/r&B night @ Lounge. EWIND’s Shophouse Party starts from 10pm to the sounds of Notorious BIG, Tupac, Mary J Blige, Blackstreet and much much more! Time is only as important as you make it to be, once gone, it can never be returned…. unless you own a TANDIS but that is neither here nor there. We love end of the month as much as we love the beginning of the month so it’s wonderful that we have a COMBINATION this week.

Join Eddy’s Revival Jam Session on WEDNESDAY @ Blu Jaz Cafe. Tis the night to make merry (and perhaps some sing-a-long or chime in with an instrument or two) They be on stage from 8:30pm onwards, so come on down and be entertained.

Tropic Green plays FRIDAY and this 8 man strong band isagoing to give us some blues, funk, soul, jazz – those yummy tunes that make us Blu Jaz Cafe! 9:30pm onwards @ CAFE. Head on up to Lounge for some GOOD TIMES. Yesssssss 1st Friday of the month will allow us some hearty partaaaayyying. Headlining is UK Dubstep outfit CLEVER MONKEY, with a guest appearance by local multi-instrumentalist/noise-wizard Stewart Bamrah. In support, we’ve got DJs NATE and SIVANESH (from local collective RHOTD) dropping some four to the floor flavour. DJ KRUMBS will be holding it down on the Hip-Hop tip, with a generous serving of head-snapping Funk and Soul on the side. 9:30pm onwards.

Come SATURDAY, you’ll get our regular, punchy, wake up, spiiicceeeyyy sounds of AYASCHOOL. Resident band, diva with the talent, we’re going to see, or rather hear, some fantastic jazz – among other things… 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe.

And returning to our neighbourhood @ Piedra Negra is PASSION – Passion(Sensation returns transcending genres. Faithfuls descend to savour the divine Western fare, lounge from 9 to 12, and party up till 3am with the boys dishing out select tunes @ LOUNGE

It’s brand new week and we’re gearing up for some serious fun. ok – not so serious but very amusing fun, marvelous fun, sensational fun.. you get the drift.

This WEDNESDAY - Blu Jaz is pleased to work with UNIFEM to raise awareness against Sex-Trafficking. It’s a rock out with great bands, talented musicians and aspiring poets….. and the names on this list are: Ah5ive. Luke Nicholas Foo, The Cosmic Order, Cindy Try, Catalogue V, The Bakerloo Line and Elyzia… join us at CAFE or SPACE (1st and 3rd Flr) for the live action from 7:30pm onwards.

For the selective ears, we have Jeremy Tordjman & Pals, paired up with MiG, to give us some be-au-ti-ful music. Coming live to you from SPACE (3rd Flr), sweet notes of jazz can be heard. SGD 10 for entry to fabulous sounds (and feed the creative peeps) from 8pm onwards on THURSDAY.

And come FRIDAY, we have Fungki Munkees in da house. That means a night of lovely jazz and blues to take us into the weekend. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe. And being the last Friday of the month, we have PUSHIN’ON on up @ Lounge and Space: The Mighty Mighty has a starring role together with Pushin’On residents DJ Shellsuit, DJ Chunk, DJ Dave Code & Masterpiece. They be spinning funk, soul, hip-hop, jazz, swing, disco, boogie and rockabilly over 2 floors of Blu Jaz Café. Over in our sister outlet: Piedra Negra, we give a shout out to world music lovers: Worldbeat Soundscape – hosted by DJs will start breathing Nigerian Afro Beats, boisterous beats of Batucada from Favelas of Brazil and Afro-Cuban Jazz from 9pm onwards on the 2nd Flr.

Just when you think you’re all partied out….. it’s SATURDAY and Ayaschool takes stage to get things-a-movin’ again. A dash of acid, a sprinkle of improv, a dollop of classics and we have great music going on. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe. Or head on up to Lounge where CHROAM presents..
