19th April – 23rd April

April 19, 2010

A layer of ash covers Europe’s sky but over in Singapore, we’re still sunny. Mostly, anyhow. And we do have our regulars as well as some new kids in our block to entertain you.

MONDAY (TODAY!)
Yes! Darren Moore’s Quintet is IN DA HOUSE. And if you’re looking for his arrangement, there is no better time than now to catch it. 8:30pm @ Space. Cover Charge applies – to feed them musicians.

WEDNESDAY
Mr Divine soothes the raging beasts in us with some great reggae mix. So head on up to Lounge and tap along with his brand of tunes from Jamaica. 9pm onwards

THURSDAY
And of course, the one official day of the week where Cafe turns to dance floor with our good people from Jitterbugs with SWING FLING. A night of Lindy Hopping and for those newbies – never fear, you can ask for a complimentary demo. Look for Sing or Brian. 8:30pm onwards

FRIDAY
It’s an onslaught of great music from almost every genre you could imagine! Muhd Noor and friends swing out big time with some soul and jazz. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe

And if you’re itching for some deep, sexy, soulful house music, let Diggin’ Deep bring you some unique sounds. DJs are boys from Europe and their take – slightly alternative. 9:30pm onwards @ Lounge

And if rock is more your thing, Midnight Rockers are your DJs @ Space and they will be bringing you hardcore tunes to sing along with. Well, maybe – head banging might be more appropriate. 9pm onwards

SATURDAY
It’s crazzzeeeee time with Ayaschool and her bunch of uber talented and lovely friends. It ranges from electronica to swing out so just come with those dance shoes. 9;30pm onwards @ Cafe

Fancy some live indie? Leonie Hill is back with some great tunes and always fun with a bunch of friends. Check this band comprising passionate members who masquerade as your working executives by day and turn rock star by night. 9:30pm onwards @ SPACE
Cheers and Peace Ya’ll

12th April – 17th April

April 12, 2010

One hopes that the weekend provided sufficient fun and rest and while the rest of us drones head on back to the 4 walls where our income is generated, our friends are certainly planning a swish, a swoosh and a bang for us this week @ cafe. While we do not have any programs planned for the public today and tomorrow, you’re more than welcome to drop by for an unwinding session with our mojito or a chat with our colleagues working the tables. And then, there is the rest of the week:

WEDNESDAY
It’s a full house this mid-week where you can choose to hang with Grooveworks @ Cafe from 9pm onwards for some seriously fun jazz OR head on up to Lounge with Matrix Jam if you’re a musician. Jam session is opened to all jazz loving players (or vocalist) but of course, be polite, give a shout out to George – our organiser for the night. 8:30pm onwards. But if you’re feeling chilled without them rhythm and blues vibe, go right up to SPACE to greet DJ Divine and his lovely REGGAE sets. 9pm onwards.

THURSDAY
It’s another SWING FLING @ Cafe with the crrrraaazzzyyyy Lindy Hop dancers from Jitterbugs. No, tis not a performance but a chance for you to join in this delightful fray. Never mind, if you can’t dance – you just have to ask Sing or Brian for a complimentary demo, make some friends and you can groove those feet along for the night. 8:30pm onwards

FRIDAY
Step into cafe this Friday with Greg Lyons’ Quartet on stage with some cool sounds. One of our resident jazz band and they be one of them best. You’d be wanting one of them martinis too…. any which way you like them. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe

Head on to Space if you’re feeling some independent spirit because we have Closeapart and Indus Gendi in the house with their own brand of music. Two Bands. No Door Charge. Open your mind a little. 9pm onwards @ Space

SATURDAY
WOOT! Ayaschool is back – rested, rejuvenated and I’m sure some wild mixes up their sleeves. This time, DON’T sit down, but dance off instead from the good vibes coming through. The adjective – great – right before music is understood. Completely. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe

For those who are craving for some exciting electronic sounds, COUP delivers with a wide array of EDM leaning towards the deep and edgy side of things. It’s a bit of everything with elements of deep house, minimal, progressive, trance, tech house, techno, drum and bass and dubstep. 9:30pm onwards @ Lounge.

Peace out, ya’all

20th July – 27th July

July 19, 2009

Highlights of the week include the launch of The Observatory’s new album! The return of Jammin’ (Reggae Night) and the return of the incredible duo – Muhd Noor and Sean Letts’s World set.

Swing and Magic Thursdays – this is a wicked combination of fun filled music and lindy hoppers all around. Once again, presenting complimentary class from Jitterbugs Swingapore for you to try out those dancing feet @ 7:30pm. Watch out for Danny who will fascinate you (cos it’s true and I say so) with his sleight-of-hand illusions from 8pm onwards.

Rock on Friday

It’s Willy and his very talented group of amigos on stage – bringing us the best of jazz, R&B and soul… it’s a night of music from 9:30pm @ Cafe

And if you feel like chillin’ AND groovin’ at the same time, join us for Jammin’ – from the land of chill – Reggae sounds fill the air from 9pm @ Lounge with Nomsta!

And @ Space, we bring you melodies and rhythms of the world – Bask in the percussion of M. Noor with influence of Brazil, Africa, the Middle East while Mr Letts weaves his magic on keys, vox complimenting the rhythms and even throwing in a few Celtic tunes… 9:30pm onwards
Party Saturdays

oopss.. AYASCHOOL takes leave and in return, we get 13 gorgeous drummers – Wicked Aura celebrates their 6th Anniversary AND the launch of Louder than Light Album – so join these boys from 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe!

The Observatory released their fourth album to date, Dark Folke, recorded and mixed in Bergen, Norway with their longtime collaborator, Jorgen Traeen, well known producer of bands such as Ultralyd, Motorpsycho and Jaga Jazzist.  With a change in musical direction, the math prog rock of The Observatory’s third album A Far Cry From Here has morphed into a fluid mystical beast called Dark Folke.  Most songs have no drums on them. But there is rhythm. Only the type of rhythm associated with an invisible pulse. An implied rhythm…. catch them @ Blu Jaz Space from 7:30pm onwards

Peace out, ya’ll

of the more underground parties – women’s nights, darkwave – welcoming goths and S&M affionados, our loyal thai guests with thier enthusiastic bands and some cool bands from around the world. Lounge sees more DJs of various music genres – ranging from, soul, funk, jazz, hip hop, r&b, house, progressive electronic and some indie rock/pop.

We have very lovely things this month (just like previous months) but it seems fuller than usual. First up, taking a break from belly dancing on Fridays, we have percussionist extraodinaire: Muhd Noor and talented Mr Shawn Letts on vocals/keyboards and whanots @ Space on 3rd, 24th and 31st July… It’s world music with jazz influence meaning that we’re going to hear some beautiful sounds

And for ONE night only, all the way from Hong Kong, we present: RiceMagnet – a folk rock group to entertain us on 4th July @ Lounge

Apart from our BRILLIANT resident bands and DJs, youse and youse should make it down for our Electronica Night with COUP DJs ( all them 10 with lounge like stuff to progressive dance tunes) on 10th july – spanning both Lounge and Space.

For a cultural shake up, join our Thai friends with their amateur live band on 17th July @ Space

And I’m particularly excited about Alternate Retro Night, with Brandon P (of velvet fame) helming DJ consol with 2 other friends (brought to you by Knight Runners) on the 18th July @ Lounge – forget Bananaramas and the likes but look forward to The Cure, the Doors, the Killers and such other past jingles.

We just about round up the month with REGGAE @ lounge with DJ Nomsta and guest on the 24th – so come with dreads and chill with a pint or two.

The Observatory launch their album at blu jaz on 25th  and we’re jumpin’ happy beans about it. more details to come. Where? Space!

Mutant Dub comes back with more mind blowin’ sounds on the 25th .. but this is not to say that our resident music makers are to be missed:  Good Times on 3rd July, 44Beats on 11th July, Dustpan Recordings on 17th July, Hafla (belly dance party!) on the 18th July and of course, Pushin’ On on the 31st July.
