We’ve all been hearing about water… Floods in the Land of Smiles – Thailand – our neighbor. Reports have shown that many are stranded and left without the minimum staples. I just got back from Bangkok last week and you could see signs of them preparing for floods everywhere. The outskirts were horribly hit and also left the city reduced of some essentials – like drinking water. Our Thai friends in Singapore and Blu Jaz are getting together this TUESDAY to raise some money for the victims. Though a tragedy, the optimistic outlooks of our Thai friends are contagious and a live band be-a-playing @ Lounge from 8:30pm onwards. For every Singha beer you buy, Blu Jaz donates the whole proceed of SGD 10/bottle to the fund. So we hope you will join us for meaningful night.
Come THURSDAY - The Blackberries are debuting @ Blu Jaz Space! Band starts playing at 9pm. For those that haven’t seen them live before, The Blackberries are a collection of folk from all corners, hailing from the UK, Shanghai and South Africa, with a healthy dose of Kiwi thrown in for good measure. They’ll be playing a wide assortment of tunes from the 80′s, 90′s and naughties, a veritable mix-tape of slightly left-of-centre classics we’re sure you’ll love, together with a couple of their own original tunes. See you there!
It’s 3 heavy hitters with us on FRIDAY @ Cafe. Presenting… Aya on keys, Darren on drums and Greg on sax! It’s gonna be a killer night of sweet music and acid notes. 9:30pm onwards. Dean Chew, otherwise known as Funk Bast*rd of Cosa Nostra along with Unconventional Science return to Blu Jaz with disco, boogie, nu-funk and some diverse selection of Asian funk records! So join us for a night of mayhem – cover – give as you please and the more you give, the more you’ll help the music go a long way!
Aya makes a double billing this weekend and on SATURDAY, she is captain with AYASCHOOl with a tres sexy line-up. We have Munir on bass, Kaye on sax and the lovely Dawn Ho on vox. 9:30pm onwards.

It’s a gorgeous week, if I may say so – be it rain or shine, there is beauty if you look for it. We are hoppin’ beans and lollipops about this week and with good reason. We chase them MONDAY work blues with some great jazz – Jazz Colonies-helmed by Darren Moore (and no, not married to Demi Moore – lame I know but it’s still early in the week) is a night where musicians play where their hearts lead. Greg Lyons Trio and Susan’s Little Big Band take over. Vastly different styles from both groups allow our listener the sounds of improvisation with intimacy with Greg and some swing out, uptempo – dare I say – happy melodies from the Little Big Band. Starts 8:30pm with cover of SGD 10 @ Space
Keeping with our tradition of giving our artistes space – Cotton island and Ghost will do their spot of indie and cover renditions on THURSDAY @ Space from 8pm. No cover so head on up for some fresh sounds.
And because it’s the last FRIDAY of the month, we’re in for a cool treat with Pushin’ On sliding behind the decks @ Lounge AND Space from 9pm onwards. Featuring KFC & J-Styles, this is going to be a full rock out party – nothing sedated bout the boys nor their music.
It’s something special if you have Aya back to back – catch her and her wonderfully, crazy, talented, brilliant, passionate, enthusiastic (now I can go on with some adjectives but you get the drift) friends both FRIDAY and SATURDAY @ Cafe from 9:30pm onwards. (ppssttt – drop a happy birthday to our drummer on Friday and you may be rewarded with some of Darryl’s sweet solos)
And if you still haven’t danced yr butt off properly on Friday, 44 Beatz is here to the scratch that itch – dishing out an ever evolving, eclectic mix from jazz to house, breaks, indie, dubstep and techno, they take Lounge this SATURDAY from 9:30pm onwards. Don’t Play, Tis Serious Stuff.
Peace Out. Yo.

April 12, 2010
One hopes that the weekend provided sufficient fun and rest and while the rest of us drones head on back to the 4 walls where our income is generated, our friends are certainly planning a swish, a swoosh and a bang for us this week @ cafe. While we do not have any programs planned for the public today and tomorrow, you’re more than welcome to drop by for an unwinding session with our mojito or a chat with our colleagues working the tables. And then, there is the rest of the week:
WEDNESDAY
It’s a full house this mid-week where you can choose to hang with Grooveworks @ Cafe from 9pm onwards for some seriously fun jazz OR head on up to Lounge with Matrix Jam if you’re a musician. Jam session is opened to all jazz loving players (or vocalist) but of course, be polite, give a shout out to George – our organiser for the night. 8:30pm onwards. But if you’re feeling chilled without them rhythm and blues vibe, go right up to SPACE to greet DJ Divine and his lovely REGGAE sets. 9pm onwards.
THURSDAY
It’s another SWING FLING @ Cafe with the crrrraaazzzyyyy Lindy Hop dancers from Jitterbugs. No, tis not a performance but a chance for you to join in this delightful fray. Never mind, if you can’t dance – you just have to ask Sing or Brian for a complimentary demo, make some friends and you can groove those feet along for the night. 8:30pm onwards

SATURDAY
WOOT! Ayaschool is back – rested, rejuvenated and I’m sure some wild mixes up their sleeves. This time, DON’T sit down, but dance off instead from the good vibes coming through. The adjective – great – right before music is understood. Completely. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe
For those who are craving for some exciting electronic sounds, COUP delivers with a wide array of EDM leaning towards the deep and edgy side of things. It’s a bit of everything with elements of deep house, minimal, progressive, trance, tech house, techno, drum and bass and dubstep. 9:30pm onwards @ Lounge.

The Observatory released their fourth album to date, Dark Folke, recorded and mixed in Bergen, Norway with their longtime collaborator, Jorgen Traeen, well known producer of bands such as Ultralyd, Motorpsycho and Jaga Jazzist. Â With a change in musical direction, the math prog rock of The Observatory’s third album A Far Cry From Here has morphed into a fluid mystical beast called Dark Folke. Â Most songs have no drums on them. But there is rhythm. Only the type of rhythm associated with an invisible pulse. An implied rhythm…. catch them @ Blu Jaz Space from 7:30pm onwards
