Cinco De Mayo
April 18, 2011
Ok – so this isn’t really at Blu Jaz but at Piedra Negra but… it’s going to be FUN!!!! Cinco de Mayo is the day when the Mexicans managed to kick the Frenchs’ A55 out of Puebla in 1862 and they be celebrating this annually…. just don’t get it mixed up with Mexico’s Independence Day… It’s also the day of celebration of our dear Benjamin and we’re be doing a French vs Mexican battle – F&B style..
Come on down on the 5th May to order our special French and Spanish food menu. We are keeping scores and will do it up till the 6th May where we celebrate PEACE… with a whole bunch of goodies! LIVE BANDS both nights + Special Jam session organized by Rupak Shakur… DJs Gonzo and Shellsuit will be playing hot and sizzling Latin music (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cuban, Mambo, Mariachi, Cha Cha, Rumba, Cumbia, Reggaeton) as well as jumping and jiving oldies tunes (Jazz, Swing, Soul, Funk, Rn’B, Boogie)” from 9pm to 3am on the Friday 6th May.
How to play? The french get points for every Wine, Patis and French dish you order. The Mexcians get points for every beer, tequila shot and Mexican dish you order…. we’ll tally it all up on Friday. SO COME ON DOWN Thursday to play and Friday to celebrate!
Peace!

THE GREG LYONS QUARTET continues it’s residency at Blu Jaz Cafe which features Casey Subramaniam on bass, Mei Sheum on organ and Darren Moore on drums. 9.30pm til 1am @ Cafe (1st Flr)
Your monthly fix of funk, soul and hip-hop rolls by just in time. The dynamic Lion City Orchestra kicks off the night with 90 mins of hard funk and super soul. Last month, you heard their first single, the foot-stomper ‘You Ain’t Ready’. Come Friday, you will get to hear their second single ‘Until You Say Yes’, an uplifting soul clap number. This is ‘live’ funk and soul in Singapore, only at Pushin’On.
And you will also get to dance all night with DJ Shellsuit, DJ Chunk and DJ Rolec. 2009 has been a wonderful year for funk re-issues and these boys have some tasty ones to unleash. Now put your hands up if you’re funky to the core.
We’ll also have exciting news to announce on the night. News that would mean you’ll get to enjoy the Pushin’On sound more than once a month.
Funky to the Core is happening @ Lounge (2nd Flr). 9pm till you know you’re not gonna make it for gym
“Give As You Please” entry (Any amount is welcome)
