It’s getting close to that time of year – you see it all over Orchard Road – the blinky lights celebrating the birth of Christ and, maybe, for the un-religious – a time to count our blessings – of family and friends – keeping it real. No matter how you choose to celebrate (or not) – there is no judgment. We’re just here, with open doors, a few more glasses of yummy beverages and scrumptious dishes….

WEDNESDAY
Grooveworks show their faces for the last time this year so bring down some gingerbread cookies and share them with these talented and dedicated musicians! Greg leads them with plenty of jazz aplomb, throwing in spirit, music, rhythm left right and center. 9pm onwards @ Cafe

Still not budging from that mental beach chair? DJ Divine spins a mean Reggae set on Wednesdays @ Lounge and he beckons all to the couch, head a-nodding and feet a-tapping. 9pm onwards.

THURSDAY
East Coast, West Coast, doesn’t matter what coast cos here in the corner fo Bali lane, we’re giving you the works – Swing Fling, complete with dance enthusiasts, DJ, costumes… if you’re shy, come on down to look for SING and she’ll be pleased to give you a pointer or two. Jitterbugs Swingapore is gearing up for the Christmas Swing on the 24th and we’re pleased to inform that it’s open doors to all. So come on down for a practice session this Thursday to strut and preen on the 24th! 8pm onwards

FRIDAY
It’s Greg’s Quartet courting us with some sweet sax sounds and some awesome improv. An all star jazz crew, if you enjoy the likes of Coltrane, Davis, you shouldn’t miss this Friday. 9:30pm @ Cafe

SATURDAY
Listen to the music of the moment, people, dance and sing. We’re just one big family. Even if it’s not pop we are tuned to, AYASCHOOL promises just that… join us for a night of magic… really. :) 9:30pm @ Cafe

44 Beatz Santa may only come once a year but the Beatz are there for you every month. This is  THE 09 Christmas Party you do not want to miss. We’ve had a cracking year so as 2009 comes to a close it’s time to dress up like maniacs, let our hair down and strut our stuff.

To get your bits moving Raeburn J will kick off with some great and classic house before Clark starts cranking up the tempo and dropping techno well into the early hours.

Tis the season to be jolly, so coalesce share the Soundscape vibe and get your fancy (dressed) ass on the dancefloor!

And before the party animals rush off to the sands under the moonlit sky, Blu Jaz is excited about our local musicans (imagine aftere all these years and we’re still hopping nuts bout them – tells youse peoples – they are rocking bands) and our guests from abroad!

MONDAY

A huge, giant, big and all other synomyms you can think, group is back. Yes, this IS the first Monday of the month and Omniform rides the chilled waves @ Cafe. From 9pm onwards, you can find people of talent, passion and luurrrvvee for Jazz playing their fingers and hearts out.

Fibelis launches an EP. That’s right – we have an instrumental trio who creates new waves of funk, pop and jazz and walks the walk of creativity TONIGHT with their launch. Originally from LaSalle, they originally covered tunes like Room 335, L.O.V.E and Let’s Get It On…. catch them live tonight from 8pm @ Space onwards – NO COVER CHARGE! YAY!

TUESDAY

All the way from France, we present to you acoustic night with David Lin – yes originally from Taiwan but hey, the boy has it down low in Paris – ze city of rrrrromance and is back in Singapore to woo the .. well, the audience with his cover versions. Expect improv and, of course, talent. 8:30pm onwards @ Cafe.
WEDNESDAY

Let’s roll with them – Grooveworks that is – the 2nd last week of their amazing gig @ Blu Jaz.. take a listen, if you haven’t already or just cos you wanna show them the LURVE…. 9pm onwards @ Cafe

DJ Divine is back after his R&R and takes Lounge to more chilled tropical vibes – never mind the weather, it’s Reggae and you can always groove with it, yes, even from your chair. 9pm onwards @ Lounge
THURSDAY

It’s addictive, it’s great, and it takes two.. to LINDY HOP - swing fling it is, boys and girls! Partner dancing has never been this splendid with music and sometimes fashion straight out from the Great Gatsby… drop in for a taste or dust off those cobwebs and put on them shoes. They be friendly – those folks at Jitterbugs and no they don’t bite.. unless you ask. politely. 8pm onwards @ Cafe

FRIDAY

Let’s welcome ” Where Was Charlie” this Friday- I would like to say it’s his debut but it’s not, so I can’t. Touring a bit and after a 2 yrs absence, he drops by not-so-sunny Singapore with his smooth grooves. Join him and his band of merry making friends for a new take on the ears. Acoustic 1st set followed by the gang – full on 5 pc. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe

SATURDAY

The Music Awareness Society is offering FREE music workshops from 12pm – 6pm @ Space. Organised by the Music Lab, they believe that music shouldn’t be deterred by moolah.. so this is an outreach program for those who are curious and strapped for cash. It’s a good thing,  drop on by – no fees – but hey buy the nice teachers a drink, or two.

David Lin returns the week for some acoustic sets from 7pm before AYASCHOOL slides in with some funky tunes.. Expect crazy energy as always and of course, mind blowing music. 9:30pm onwars @ Cafe

No, it has not been a short week @ Blu Jaz but rather a lack of wireless access. If you’ve missed the fantastic Omniform, Grooveworks AND reggae night, you should MOST defintiely check out some Magic Fling tonight.
Swing Fling, co-hosted, by Jitterbugs Swingapore sees lindy hoppers of all levels strutting and trying out some social (and stunt) moves tonight. Complimentary class from 7:30pm onwards @ Cafe and music thereafter till 11pm! And if being a voyeur is your cup of tea, watch out for Danny, our Illusionist, who will take card tricks to a new level. 8pm onwards – all around.

FRIDAY

Fuse Collective doesn’t just rock out @ Cafe this friday but instead, woo us with some funk and soul. Muhd Noor leads with out of the world percussion. 9:30pm onwards

And if you missed our regular Wednesday Reggae nights with DJ Divine, you might wanna consider catching DJ Nomsta with Jammin’ – reggae with passion, reggae with heart. 9pm onwards @ Lounge

The winds are a playin’ and Blu Jaz has been blessed with good artistes. Apart from enticing music, Blu Jaz is proud to have Ee Shaun worked on our cafe – featuring artwork our sensuously laden mural @ Space (3rd Flr) and his abstract art piece @ Lounge.

This week we bring you a brand new party!

THURSDAY

Swing Fling @ Cafe – our ever growing group jumps up and down to the tempo of swing and Charleston. A Jitterbugs and other Lindy Hop lovers gather to dance their hearts out from 8:30pm onwards. Trial Class (FREE!) @ 7:30pm

It’s also MAGIC Thursday – presenting Danny – our close up illusionist. Having garnered several awards and after many guests television appearance in Singapore and Taiwan, Danny is gracing our care with his sleight of hands and some magic chocolate kisses! Chill out at any of our levels and he’ll come to you. 8pm onwards.

FRIDAY

Reggie Pereira takes centrestage @ Cafe this Friday with his own sound : Tribaltide presents Didjitaal Vibes, an organic tribalfunk electronica outfit, dishing out funky deep pocket grooves & rhythms. Combining old school ethnic instruments with a new electronica sound & vibe. Enticed from his abode, he brings friends, Muhd Noor on percussion, Bani on bass and Christine Sham on keys – abroad for a night of LURRRRVE. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe

Dustpan Recordings – our favorite HOUSE DJs return to Lounge with their cool sounds and hot melodies. Respected and appreciated by more than all our toes and fingers put together, we give it up for some wicked beats. 9pm onwards

Our lovely Thai community has gathered once again and will be brining in the band with the local flava – the best in Singapore, with some Thai Pop and Evergreens. Ladies and Gentlemen – it’ll be a blast. 9pm onwards @ Lounge

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again. In fact, we’ll say it many more times. WE LOVE AYASCHOOL! She is at home @ Cafe this Saturday to bring us another crazy ass night…. slightly (JUST A TAD) older and even better, Saturdays are a rock out with Aya and friends. 9:30pm onwards

And as promised, the FIRST TIME EVER - 7 year itch – from the people of Pop Trash, Close yer eyes, dilate yer ears and stomp yer feet to the likes of The Human League, Soft Cell, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Prince, Grace Jones and bags of quintessential and ground breaking tracks long forgotten. Back to the times where wild boys don’t cry and girls just wanted to have fun, a timeless night for all ages young and well, not so young but young at heart. A no holds-barred onslaught of the 80s sound, like you have NEVER heard before.

July HaflaA month of break and we’re BACK. Hafla – pronounced – Haf – la, it’s Arabic for party and you’ve guessed it – we’re throwing a BELLY DANCE party. Featuring a variety of dancers from various schools – students and teachers alike, party starts from 7:30pm. So get ready for some Middle Eastern Dance music and join us on the dance floor. SPACE.

UPDATE!

Sat – LOUNGE - 2nd flr!
1306 and 44 Beatz is back for another monthly soiree at Blu Jaz down on Bali Lane. June’s gig finds them on the 2nd Floor with a spruced up sound system and a big bag of tunes. Get set for another eclectic set from Raeburn J as he takes control at 9pm and spins an uplifting, soul fueled mix of Acid Jazz and electronica.

Clark takes to the decks around 11pm for a few hours, moving us into deeper, hi-tech and experimental territory whilst keeping with that new jazz vibe.

Late on Music Makers play back to back n finish the night off with whatever feels right and fits your mood. Could be techno , could be electro or breaks. Last month it was drum n bass and that was fun!

We have a ton of visitors dropping by and we’re jumping jelly beans all about them! We had Quinzy Band from Canada on Monday and we’re sure to see more of them soon @ Blu Jaz while they’re in Singapore and our neighbours from the Philippines – Mike’s Apartment – will be hanging loose @ Space this Saturday. A little slip of information for the next week – David Ma and friends from Hong Kong will be jazzing up our spot next week!

So here is the rundown, kiddies!

Tues and Wed – Grooveworks take their spot @ Space on Tues from 9pm onwards with some more smooth grooves (geddit?) and we juggle things up a little and have them trasversing to Cafe on Wed from 9pm onwards with a different set of jazz sets.

Thursday – Swing Fling greets us at the doors of Cafe from 7:30pm onwards with free lindy hop lesson from the teacherbugs of Jitterbugs. So if you’re looking for an excuse to try a new dance, look no further. We start jammin’ from 8:30pm onwards

Friday – A new band combi beckons you with fast fingers Md Noor on percussion, Munir on bass and Fendi on vox. This is a trio not just to watch but to smooze and jive with. 9:30pm onwards @ Cafe

Saturday – We, of course, by tradition, end the week with some LOCO locals, namely, Ayaschool @ Cafe from 9:30pm onwards. This week sees Lauren Munguia on flute/vocal,  Robert Nalin on drums and Aya on keys.

And our touring friends from Philippines, bring us some new funk/soul sounds – featuring Mike’s Apartment @ Space (from 10pm onwards)

Saturday – We, of course, by tradition, end the week with some LOCO locals, namely  Ayaschool @ Cafe from 9:30pm onwards. This week sees Lauren Munguia on flute/vocal,  Robert Nalin on drums and Aya on keys.

Blu Jaz is jumping for joy and for sure with very exciting things happening in May…. so happy that we might just p33 in our pants….. :-D In chronological order ….

We are starting a SWING FLING! It’s happening  every Thurs @ Space (3rd Flr) in May. Partnering up with Jitterbugs Swingapore, there will be a free 45min lindy hop class for newbies from 7:30pm before we start the dance floor for all to jam and show of those rockin’ dance moves. For the FIRST swing fling, Jazz Nuts (18 member band!!)  will serenade and inspire us to hop out and venture forth!
Good Times is celebrating their 1st Anniversary with us on the 22nd May, taking over 2 floors and providing us with some killer music. The usual suspects: Good Times, Pushin’ On, Dustpan Recordings AND 44 Beatz are returning for their monthly parties to show us what real groovy music is like.
